Amongst other nearby beaches are those at Slapton Sands, East Portlemouth opposite Salcombe and, for surfers, at Bantham. Behind Slapton Sands is the Slapton Ley National Nature Reserve (website). Start Point lighthouse (website) is also well worth visiting and can be combined with a short or long walk along the SW Coast Path. Historic Dartmouth (website) is just 5 miles away with trips available on the beautiful River Dart – or out to sea for fishing or sightseeing on, for instance, the African Queen (website). Just up the Dart is Greenway (website), Agatha Christie's old home, now run by the National Trust and featuring splendid gardens with fine views over the Dart. Gardners will also appreciate the National Trust's other local site at Coleton Fishacre (website), And golfers might play a round at the Dartmouth Golf and Country Club (website).
